Final four places booked for Olympics, British youngsters impress
Italy, Canada, France and Brazil grabbed the final four places in the women's artistic gymnastics team event at London 2012 after success at the test event on Wednesday.
They finished in the top four of the eight teams at the second qualification event at the London Prepares test event at the North Greenwich arena.
Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Korea missed out and will not take the full berth of five gymnasts each to London 2012.
Britain had already qualified a full women's team for the Games at the World Championships in Tokyo last October and the decision was taken that no gymnasts who competed there would take part at the test event.
Instead, Rebecca Tunney, 15, and Jocelyn Hunt, 17, represented Britain as individual gymnasts in a bid to increase their experience at senior level.
Tunney
Tunney, who trains at the same gymnastics club as three-time World champion Beth Tweddle, finished in an impressive 19th place out of 87 gymnasts with an all-around score of 54.399 while Hunt finished 40th.
Performing in her first senior competition after making the step up from juniors, Tunney completed the fourth highest scoring uneven bars routine of the day - 14.466 - to book herself a place in Friday's apparatus final.
She said: "Making the bar final was a really big achievement for me, I wasn't expecting it as it was my first big competition so I'm really happy.
"Beth helps us in the gym on bars when she's not training. She comes over and gives us advice which really helps, especially in competition.
"There are a lot bigger names and there are all these Olympians around me but it's great. It's definitely boosted my confidence."
