Sophie Allen claimed Britain's second silver in 24 hours at the European Championships.
Young Briton amongst the medals in Debrecen
Sophie Allen claimed Great Britain's second silver medal in 24 hours at the European Championships when she replicated Stockport ITC team-mate James Goddard's second place in the 200m individual medley in Debrecen.
Allen, who qualified for the final fifth fastest, was in fifth at the halfway point but a storming breaststroke leg - the quickest in the field - propelled her to second with 50m to go.
She then produced a strong final freestyle leg to touch second in two minutes 11. 49 seconds, 0.65secs behind winner Katinka Hosszu, who claimed her second medley title of the week after victory over 400m.
For the 20-year-old it continues a fine year which saw her book a spot on the GB Olympic team, alongside Hannah Miley, at the trials at the Aquatics Centre in March.
As well as Commonwealth champion Goddard, Allen trains with world open water champion Keri-anne Payne under Sean Kelly and has benefited from swimming with such experienced athletes.
Intentions
Earlier, Craig Gibbons was 30th in the heats of the men's 100m freestyle, although the small British team of five have been competing here while in heavy training.
Daniel Gyurta and Laszlo Cseh made clear their intentions for 2012 with impressive victories as the Hungarian team claimed four gold medals.
World champion Gyurta won the 200 metres breaststroke in a championship record of two minutes 8.60 seconds, a time that propelled him up to third in the world rankings.
His effort served notice to Kosuke Kitajima, who currently heads the world rankings with a time 0.6secs quicker from last month's Japanese Olympic trials.
Kitajima is looking to become the first man to twice successfully defend an Olympic title after he won the breaststroke double in both Athens and Beijing. Such an attempt also depends on Michael Phelps not competing in and winning the 400m individual medley which will be decided on the first day of competition.
Cseh wrapped up his second title in 24 hours when he won the 200m butterfly in 1:54.95, a time which guided him to third in the rankings.
The four-time Olympic medallist will face 14-time Olympic champion Phelps in this event in London and will also pit his wits against the American and his team-mate and world champion Ryan Lochte in the 200m individual medley.
Cseh's team-mates Hosszu and Boglarka Kapas also claimed gold in the women's 200m individual medley and 800m freestyle respectively.
Kapas rose to fifth in the rankings with an 8:26.49 in the freestyle.
Jenny Mensing took gold for Germany in the women's 100m backstroke in 1:00.08 to interrupt the golds for Hungary while Jonatan Kopelev of Israel won the men's 50m backstroke in 24.73 ahead of Italy's Mirco Di Tora, with Dorian Gandin (France), Guy Barnea (Israel) and Richard Bohus (Hungary) all sharing third.
