Chinese star wins fourth Olympic gold

China's Chen Roulin successfully defended her Olympic women's 10-metre platform title to win a fourth Olympic gold medal. She had been untouchable in the opening two qualification rounds and so it proved again, immediately stamping her authority with an opening 10, en route to 422.30. Sixteen-year-old Australian Brittany Broben was Chen's closest challenger but even then she was still a massive 55.80 points in her wake. Pandelela Rinong Pamg took bronze for Malaysia as she edged out a tight pack behind her with a score of 359.20. Victory for Chen was her second of these Games after she teamed with Wang Hao to win the platform synchro last week. Chen had been more than 40 points ahead of her rivals in the qualifying rounds and admitted that had taken the pressure off her. "I'm very relaxed. It's like it's not the Olympic Games," the 19-year-old said. "I feel no high pressure, I'm relaxed.

Blitzed

"I feel very pleased to have another gold medal for China." While Chen blitzed the field her 16-year-old team-mate Hu Yadan, who won silver at last year's world championships, crashed out of contention early and could only manage ninth. "She's very young and this is her first time to attend the Olympic Games," Chen said. "She still has lots of chances. She needs to be more grown-up and more stable. She will be a nice girl." Hu's early errors opened the door for the rest of the field and just 5.65 points separated second to eighth heading into the final dive. Broben, the youngest member of Australia's Olympic team, held her nerve despite her tender years to leap from fourth into the silver-medal position with scores of 8.5. "Please don't pinch me because I never want to wake up. It's amazing," she said. "It's unbelievable, amazing. I was really nervous on that last dive. I couldn't be happier. I was just so nervous. I was in (fourth) and I didn't want to let it slip away. I had to do it. "Anything is possible. My first ever diving competition was four years ago and now I have a silver medal." Pamg won just Malaysia's second medal of these Olympics. "I feel very proud and happy because I just won a medal for Malaysia," she said. "It's really an honour. It's a great, great thing for Malaysia." "I feel very proud of Malaysia. I hope Malaysia is proud of me."
