British star underlines credentials with comfortable victory

Olympic gold medal hopeful Helen Jenkins impressed as she claimed victory at the World Triathlon Series event in San Diego. The British star crushed the field in California, winning by more than a minute. The 28-year-old and Australian Erin Densham led into the first lap of the 10km run after an eight-woman bike breakaway had established a two-and-a-half-minute advantage over the first chase group. Densham pulled away on the second lap before Jenkins turned the tables to win in a time of one hour 58 minutes 21 seconds. Densham finished 65 seconds back. American Laura Bennett booked her place in the Olympics be finishing third. Jenkins, who finished second to Densham in Sydney earlier in the season, said: "It was just such a good race. We really had to work really hard for that. "I really pushed the swim and we really worked hard on the bike and that was hard all the way. I really enjoyed the run course. It was really cool. There was so many people out there supporting - it was awesome.''
