Yelena Isinbayeva broke her own pole vault world record with a clearance of 5.01m in Stockholm.
Russian pole vaulter adds one centimetre to her own world record
Yelena Isinbayeva set a new pole vault world record of 5.01 metres at the XL Galan indoor meeting in Stockholm, completely overshadowing Holly Bleasdale's continued good start to 2012.
The double Olympic champion beat her own record of 5.00m she set in Donetsk in February 2009.
The Russian made her clearance at the second attempt on an evening where she dominated the competition in Sweden.
Bleasdale, who had enjoyed a close tussle with Isinbayeva earlier this month, and Yarisley Silva were runners-up, both clearing 4.72 but they were nowhere near the Russian.
Bleasdale leapt to third on the all-time list last month when she cleared 4.87metres, an effort bettered only by Isinbayeva and the USA's Jennifer Suhr.
The 20-year-old again had to concede defeat to the Russian as she did earlier this month in Poland when the double Olympic champion edged out the Briton on countback.
Isinbayeva did not enter the competition until the bar was set at 4.72m, clearing it at the second attempt.
Sailed over
Bleasdale sailed over at her first attempt at 4.52m, passing at 4.62 before easing over at 4.72.
However, she could not repeat this at 4.82 and had to yield to Isinbayeva who succeeded at her second attempt.
The Russian then went over at 4.92 on her last try before claiming the new world record at her second attempt.
Silva, fifth at last year's world championships in Daegu, was third after also clearing 4.72 but edged out by Bleasdale on countback.
Yamile Aldama's preparation continues apace after setting a season's best of 14.44 to finish third in the triple jump.
World and European champion Olga Saladukha set a new indoor personal best of 14.79 - the second furthest in 2012 - with double world champion Yargelis Savigne second, three cm ahead of Aldama.
