Great final day of test event sees british boxers celebrate golds

British boxers dominated the final day of action at the London International Invitational as they came away with five gold medals and a bronze from six finals at the Olympic test event. Liverpool's Natasha Jonas and Hartlepool's Savannah Marshall set a winning example in the morning with convincing victories. Lightweight Jonas produced a display of controlled boxing to secure a 16-10 win over the world number two, Cheng Dong of China. She was followed by Marshall who claimed a 13-10 triumph over Dariga Shakimova of Kazhakstan in a cagey bout. It was her first gold medal at the Olympic middleweight (75kg) category after she moved up from welterweight (69kg), where she was ranked number two in the world, at the start of 2011.

Men's success

The women's success was matched by the men in the afternoon session as England's Martin Ward, Sean McGoldrick from Wales and Scotland's Josh Taylor ensured all three home nations went home with a gold medal. Repton lightweight Ward produced a classy 10-5 victory over Eugen Burhard of Germany and bantamweight McGoldrick secured another gold medal to go with that he won at the 2010 Commonwealth Games by beating Worapoj Petchkoom of Thailand 14-10. Scotland's Taylor made it five from five with a 13-10 win over Anthony Yigit of Sweden. GB's six-medal haul was completed by Wales' Fred Evans, who was third in the welterweight category.
