Siobhan-Marie O'Connor backed up her British record swims on Thursday with the 100IM silver medal at the World Short Course Championships in Doha on Friday.

The Sky Academy Sports Scholar clocked a time of 57.83 to pick up her second medal of the championship behind Katrinka Hosszu who beat her own world and championship records to win the gold in 56.70.

The Hungarian was the favourite for the title ahead of the race despite O'Connor having qualified fastest for the final in a British record time of 57.66 on Thursday evening, beating her own time set in the heats earlier in the day.

In the final Hosszu led from the start and at halfway O'Connor found herself behind not only the world record holder but Emily Seebohm as well. However, a strong finish saw the 19-year-old Bath swimmer touch home almost half a second ahead of her Australian rival, who took the bronze.

O'Connor's attention now turns to the 200IM on Saturday with another medal, not to mention another battle with Hosszu, a very realistic possibility.

Having added the 100IM silver to the 4x50m mixed relay silver that she won on Thursday though, her confidence is sure to be high.
