Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne has been hospitalised after she suffered a fall at Mildura racecourse.

Payne is suffering with abdominal pains after she was unshipped from Dutch Courage, trained by her brother, Patrick, in a five-furlong sprint.

The jockey was conscious and had full movement of her limbs before being taken by ambulance to Mildura Base Hospital for further observation.

Mildura racecourse track manager Murray James told Press Association Sport: "I've spoken to Michelle's brother and she's going to be all right.

"She has no broken bones and was conscious when she left the track, but she does have quite bad abdominal pains.

"We were very concerned at one stage."

Earlier in the day she had ridden a double aboard Chamois Road and Matamanoa, both of whom are also trained by her brother.
