A review of the rest of Sunday afternoon's meeting at Naas as Dermot Weld's Hamiyra made a smart start to her career..
Hazmiyra made a smart start to her career with an impressive debut victory in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden at Naas.
Despite going in against several experienced opponents, Dermot Weld's filly was the 9-4 favourite in the hands of Pat Smullen and travelled strongly throughout.
Cry Me A River, considered good enough to run in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot last summer and runner-up on her Dundalk comeback a fortnight ago, did her best to make a race of it, but Hazmiyra always had her measure and passed the post a length and three-quarters to the good.
The winner's stable companion, Baliyka, shaped with plenty of promise in third.
Weld said: "She's a nice filly and I've always liked her. She's a little bit immature but did the job nicely.
"She's a beautifully bred filly and we'll see if we can get a bit of black type along the way. She's not been to a racetrack before and was a bit green.
"I walked the track beforehand and it's beautiful ground. There was a little bit of rain, and she would always want an ease in the ground."
Aridity kept on well under William Buick to land the Follow Us On Facebook Handicap for William McCreery and Godolphin.
The Teofilo gelding was making his handicap debut and shrugged off a mark of 80 to win by two and a half lengths.
Johann Bach won the New BBQ Evening Format At Naas Handicap under 5lb claimer Gary Paul Haplin.
