Clifford Lee and Intense Tango win Old Borough Cup at Haydock

Apprentice Clifford Lee advertised his talents with a finely judged ride aboard Intense Tango (12/1) in the 32Red Casino Handicap at Haydock Park.
The 7lb claimer has been enjoying a good run of form but victory in front of the terrestrial television cameras in a race formerly known as the Old Borough Cup will have introduced him to a new audience.
Lee, who put by 3lb overweight, was originally pencilled in for Iain Jardine's Shrewd but was claimed to ride the winner by Karl Burke.
Lee set out to make all aboard Intense Tango who came into the race in career best form and he judged his fractions to perfection.
The pair had the whole field in trouble at the furlong marker but Montaly emerged from the pack to throw down a strong challenge, failing by just a head to reel the winner in.
There were two and a quarter lengths back to Blue Rambler in third with 9/2 favourite Magic Circle fourth.
Burke said: "We were worried about the ground, but we thought we might get an easy lead. I told him not to pull her around as she'd had a little wind operation.
"Once she got an easy lead the plan was to nick a couple of lengths.
"He's a very good young rider and has good hands. He only needs two or three more winners to lose his 7lb claim. He's a bit on the heavy side but he's young and hasn't quite worked out the right diet."
He added: "She could go Leopardstown's big meeting next week. There's a one-mile-six race there."
Sky Bet cut the winner to 33/1 for the Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket.
Montaly's jockey Oisin Murphy was banned for two days (September 17 and 19) for using his whip above the permitted level while George Downing, who rode third-placed Blue Rambler, was banned for four days for the same offence.
He will be suspended on September 17, 19-21.
