Gordon Elliott has issued an upbeat bulletin on Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Don Cossack.

The nine-year-old has been on the long road back to recovery after sustaining a tendon injury when being prepared for the Punchestown Gold Cup in April.

His finest hour came when he proved four and a half lengths too good for Djakadam at Prestbury Park in March, and the plan is to return - but only if all goes very much to plan.

Elliott said: "He is back doing roadwork and dressage for the past eight weeks and all the scans have been good and everything has been OK.

"The plan is to have one run and then go for the Gold Cup, but he doesn't owe us anything so if he's not 120 per cent he won't run."
