Monday's National Hunt fixture at Ludlow has been abandoned due to frost.
Temperatures were only forecast to dip marginally below freezing and officials were confident of racing taking place.
However, it reached as cold as -4C and with a cloudy morning forecast the worry is that the temperature will not rise quick enough to thaw out the ground.
The racecourse's official Twitter account tweeted: "Racing abandoned due to frost. -4 at present, with a cloudy day forecast. :((".
