Tom Lacey takes small steps with Kimberlite Candy

Tom Lacey is to take a patient approach with impressive Ascot winner Kimberlite Candy before stepping him up in class.
The four-year-old is owned by Dermot Desmond, whose colours were made famous by Commanche Court.
The former Irish favourite won 11 times for trainer Ted Walsh including the Triumph Hurdle, the Irish Grand National and the Punchestown Gold Cup, as well as finishing second to Best Mate in the first of his three Cheltenham Gold Cup wins in 2002.
Kimberlite Candy has a long way to go to match those achievements, but won his only start in the point-to-point sphere before casting aside a useful field in Berkshire last month on his hurdling debut.
Lacey said: "I am looking at going for a novice hurdle with him at Newcastle on December 17, but there are other options before and after.
"I just want to take small steps with him as I think he is a lovely horse.
"I've been very tempted to drop him in the deep end, but why would I want to? He is only four so why ruin him?
"We will see where he takes us, but chasing will be his game."
