Exciting sprinter Limato is set to put his unbeaten record on the line in the 888Sport Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock on Saturday.

The three-year-old made it five from five when scoring on his seasonal reappearance in the Pavilion Stakes at Ascot in late April, after which Henry Candy suggested his stable star could head straight to next month's Royal meeting for the inaugural Commonwealth Cup.

However, he feels his charge will benefit from another outing and is keen to let him line up in this weekend's Group Two on Merseyside, providing conditions are suitable.

"It's subject to ground and everything else, but I think it's probably the logical progression. If they're good enough to put on a three-year-old-only Group Two, I think we should support it," said the trainer.

"I'm happy with him, but it's a long time be doing nothing (between April and June) and at least it will save me galloping him at home!

"He wouldn't run if the ground is soft. He'll go on quick ground, but not soft."
