A review of the latest action from Salisbury where the Clive Cox-trained Bobby Wheeler made a big impression under Gerald Mosse.

Jane Chapple-Hyam has got her eye on a trip to France with The Twisler following his victory in the concluding Kevin Hall & Pat Boakes Memorial Handicap Stakes at Salisbury.

Appearing to need every yard of the one-mile-six-furlong trip the 5-1 winner, who finished eighth in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot, came with a powerful late surge under Jamie Spencer to deny leader Diamond Joel by a length.

Chapple-Hyam said: "He only got beat around four lengths in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot and has been running on good to firm ground.

"It was nice that it was on the slow side of good as that just took the sting out of it for him.

"He will probably go to France now within the next six weeks, as he he will get the cut in the ground he wants there. I said he had to win today for him to do that, though.

"He is a trier and it would be nice to dream that next year he may be a Northumberland Plate horse."

Jockey Martin Lane found himself in hot water with the stewards after failing to weigh in aboard newcomer Amor Invicto in the totepool Racing's Biggest Supporter Maiden Auction Stakes.

Although initially finishing third, the Daniel Kubler-trained two-year-old was placed last. The race was won by Bobby Wheeler (15-8), the first leg of a double for trainer Clive Cox and jockey Gerald Mosse who also landed the Group Three totepool Sovereign Stakes with Kodi Bear (11-4).

The stewards banned Lane for seven days between August 27 and September 2.

Lane said: "It was my own stupidity. I was talking to the trainer about my ride in the next race and one thing led to another. It was absolutely unprofessional.

"I have given my riding fee back and I am going to reimburse the owners with the prize-money. I just want to apologise again."

Cox said of the winner: "From that draw we were a bit concerned how we were going to ride him, but luckily he has got good gate speed and Gerald took care of the rest.

"I think he is quite a nice horse and the ease underfoot has helped today. Gerald said take care of him as he really liked him."

Khareer showed his appetite for a battle when forcing his way between rivals to land the Mary Wort Memorial Maiden.

Although looking beaten, the Charlie Hills-trained 7-2 shot rallied in game fashion to come through a gap between Musharrif and Big Chill before denying the latter by a short-head.

Hanagan said: "I think it has just taken time for the penny to drop. He has got no quirks, he is just a big baby.

"He is really tough and genuine and put his head down when it mattered. I think he will get further in time to be honest as he is quite laid-back.

"The only thing that found him out was the undulations of the track and maybe the ease in the ground went against him."

Brendan Powell gave credit to jockey Liam Keniry for recommending a step up in trip for Stockhill Diva (10-1) following her facile success in the Win A Football Fortune With Scoop6Soccer EBF Stallions Fillies' Handicap.

Having been ridden with restraint close to the rear of the field by Keniry, the five-year-old moved effortlessly into contention on her first start over a mile and a half before going on to score by an eased down three and a half lengths.

Powell said: "Liam has been saying about stepping up to a mile and a half.

"She goes on any ground and maybe the ease in the ground just helped her out a bit.

"She is very genuine and has done it nicely."

Filosofo (9-4) saw his long-standing maiden status come to end after the Richard Hannon-trained colt obliged under top weight in the Play The New Scoop6Soccer Every Week Handicap.

Laura Mongan's Hipz (11-2) made an immediate impact dropped back down to six furlongs when getting the better of a tight finish in the Bill Garnett Memorial Fillies' Handicap Stakes.
