Jockey David Nolan has been hit with a 23-day ban, seven of which were deferred, over misuse of the whip.

The ride which triggered the suspension was Fullon Clarets, on whom he finished second in the Royal Scots Handicap Stakes at Musselburgh on September 27.

That was his fifth such offence warranting a ban of between two and six days within the last six months, meaning a referral to the British Horseracing Authority disciplinary panel.

His suspension will run from October 9-24 inclusive, with the remaining days deferred to December 24.

Nolan, who rides mainly for Richard Fahey and David O'Meara, is on course to have his most successful season as he is currently level with his best ever tally of 36 winners.
