Silvestre De Sousa lands Pontefract double

Silvestre De Sousa took a step nearer to being crowned champion jockey for the first time by landing a 69-1 double at Pontefract.
The busy Brazilian has what looks an unassailable lead in the race to be Britain's number one with less than two weeks to go in the revamped title race and he struck on Kassia and Somethingthrilling.
Kassia (9-1) enjoyed a dream run on the far rail to win the DEM Window Solutions Nursery Handicap
The Mick Channon-trained filly missed the break but made up the ground with ease and was a worthy winner even though Noble Peace ran on well down the centre of the course to get within a neck of her at the line.
Somethingthrilling (6-1) looked just that as she overcame a tardy start to run away with the Buy Your 2016 Annual Badge Today Maiden Stakes on her racecourse debut.
The daughter of Makfi is trained by David Elsworth, who provided De Sousa with a Group One triumph in the Juddmonte International at York with a shock victory on Arabian Queen over Sunday's Arc hero Golden Horn.
Heaven Scent (50-1) stayed on best to stun punters in the RacingUK Sky Channel 432/British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.
Unplaced in her two previous starts, Ann Duffield's charge came from the rear under 7lb claimer Rowan Scott to lead inside the final furlong and take this 10-furlong stamina test for two-year-olds by two and a quarter lengths.
Argyle plugged on for second place a neck ahead of long-timer leader Signed And Sealed.
Godolphin's Change The Game, the 2-9 favourite, was a big disappointment finishing fourth of the six.
Scott, riding his 13th winner of the season, said: "The slower ground and the trip just made the difference. She showed a good attitude there."
Godolphin had a mixed day but managed to get on the scoresheet with Charlie Appleby's Pallister (9-2), who led inside the final furlong under Phillip Makin to beat Volunteer Point by a length and a quarter in the #40 totepool Package On 19th October Handicap.
"He's won on this track and is good on this ground which is slightly on the easy side," Godolphin's representative James Ferguson told Racing UK.
"He's been very consistent this year. Having done well for Mark Johnston it's nice he's done it for us."
The Johnston team got on the board with Nomenklatura (14-1), who wore down long-time leader Ghostly Arc to open her account in the Racing UK Anywhere Handicap under Franny Norton.
The big step up in trip from a mile and a quarter to two and a quarter was just what the doctor ordered for Medicine Hat (14-1) as he ran out an emphatic winner of the RacingUK Club Day 19th October Bluff Cove Handicap.
George Moore's four-year-old had won over hurdles during the winter but ran over the shorter distance on his switch back to the Flat at Redcar.
Despite having to switch after being short of room on the home turn, Medicine Hat proved a willing partner for Tom Eaves and went on to win by five lengths from Hallstatt.
"I thought he'd win on the Flat, but he is a proper jumper. Tom rode him at Redcar and said this fella needs two mile two round Pontefract, so I found the race and he's done the job," said Moore.
"He's a good honest fella and off a rating of 60 he had a good chance. If there isn't anything else for him on the Flat it wouldn't matter."
Paul Mulrennan got Trinity Star (4-1) up close home to edge out Pumaflor by a neck and land the Book Your Christmas Party On 0113 287 6387 Handicap for Michael Dods.
"He needs a good gallop and a bit of luck. Today the plan was to sit just behind the leaders, but he fell out of the stalls and Paul had to ride a race on him," said Dods.
"On his day he's a fair horse but he's not had any luck. We'll probably put him away now and keep him for next year."
