Catterick delight for Ann Duffield

Ann Duffield has enjoyed a great season with her juveniles and was celebrating her 21st two-year-old winner of the year when Young Windsor just held on at Catterick.
It is Duffield's highest ever tally in that sphere and her 31st winner overall, her best since 2011.
Considering she does not have the resources of some of her powerhouse contemporaries, it is an impressive number and reward for making a brave decision to invest heavily in that department.
Young Windsor, ridden by Graham Lee, was wearing a visor for the first time and took up the running some way out but had to be brave to hold off the late lunge of Inaam and win the second division of the Bhest Racing To School Nursery by a nose.
"He'd gone close a couple of times and has been unlucky more than once," said Duffield.
"He was going up in the weights for getting beaten and had been hampered a couple of times and it just wasn't falling right for him, it was making it very hard to win with him.
"We tried a visor today and it's worked.
"That's our 21st two-year-old winner of the season, our 31st overall, and I'm absolutely delighted.
"For a yard our size to have so many two-year-old winners is a great effort, I think. It's certainly the most we've ever had in one season."
The first division was won by Michael Bell and Louis Steward with Modest (8-1), the first leg of a double for the duo.
Modest burst clear a furlong and a half out to win by two and a half lengths from Smart Mover.
"I think the softer ground has helped her today," said Steward.
"She has a bit of a funny action so she appreciates getting her toe in.
"I just think she was the best of a bad bunch today."
Strait Of Magellan had been getting beaten off marks in the mid 60s down south but bolted up in the Visit Catterick Sunday Market Every Week Handicap off a rating of 73.
The 11-4 favourite won by four and a half lengths.
"Coming her we weren't sure about the ground and despite him winning like that I'm still not sure he enjoyed it," said Steward.
Jockey Graham Gibbons had a lucky escape riding The New Pharaoh in the Skyram Handicap.
A full-brother to Derby winner Motivator, the Chris Wall-trained four-year-old appeared about to win for the first time when hitting the front just inside the final furlong.
He was two lengths clear of Funky Munky (12-1) when Gibbons used his whip in his right hand and The New Pharaoh tried to jump the rail, crashing through them in spectacular fashion.
Thankfully both horse and jockey were unscathed. Funky Munky went on to win, holding off Silver Shuffle.
John Quinn will look at the possibility of trying to gain black type for Saturn Lace who defied a 10lb rise in the weights in the Watch On 3 Devices racinguk.com/anywhere Nursery Handicap.
A winner over course and distance in August, Ian Brennan's mount always looked to be going best and favourite Novinophobia had no answer close home.
"I thought the 10lb rise would be too much, but the penny has dropped," said Quinn.
"She liked the soft ground today, she's tough.
"She might go up another 5lb/6lb and we may as well look to try and get some black type.
"She's in the sales, but loves it here so we might see if there's anything else for her."
Jack Garritty was also in double form, taking the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Stakes for his boss Richard Fahey on Early Bird (5-2) before being the beneficiary on Funky Munky.
Simon Walker, so often the man to follow when he rides under Rules, was the first rider to try the stands side all day and was rewarded with the very easy win of Summer Isles (17-2), having his first start for Paul Midgley, in the first division of the Racing Again Saturday 17th October Amateur Riders' Handicap.
