Trainer Lucinda Russell,, stable jockey Peter Buchanan and owner Deborah Thomson stole the show at Kelso on Saturday as the they teamed up for a stunning treble.

The trip combined with Big River, One For Arthur and Alizee De Janeiro to complete a hat-trick at odds of 117/1.

Buchanan said: "I ridden a treble before in point to points but this is my first under Rules. Some days you look like you have a few chances and it doesn't happen and others you ride more winners than you expect so I'm delighted."

Thomson, based at Gullane in East Lothian, added: "I'd never even had a double before today! It was also fantastic to achieve it at Kelso because the course chairman Johnny Jeffreys said I should get involved with Lucinda."

Russell said: "We might come back here for a good Grade hurdle later in the season with Big River and I'd say he is one of our best novices.

One For Arthur was always going to make a chaser and there should be loads of improvement to come - he could end up being a Scottish National horse and maybe even this season."
