Donjuan Triumphant is likely to reappear in the 888Sport Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock on May 28.

Richard Fahey's speedster made rapid progress at the end of last season, winning a handicap at the Ayr Gold Cup meeting to claiming Group Two glory in France a month later.

He was then less than three lengths behind Johannes Vermeer in the Criterium International on his final start.

"Donjuan Triumphant will be aimed at the Commonwealth Cup," said Tim Palin, racing manager for owners Middleham Park Racing.

"We hope to get him started off in the Sandy Lane at Haydock, but he's a bit ground dependent.

"He didn't actually winter very well but he's thriving again now. He's the type that the more you do with him, the more he likes it, and I think he might just have got a bit bored in the winter. If we still own him going into next season we might not ease off him so much and just keep him ticking over.

"I'm not sure he'll stay a mile and there could be a line of thinking that he didn't quite stay seven furlongs last year, but you could also say he was a bit far out of his ground when he was beaten in his Group One in France.

"I'd be pleasantly surprised if he stays a mile, but he's likely to be campaigned over six and seven furlongs, I think. He ended the season rated among the top 10 two-year-olds in Europe."
