News of the pick of the action from Tuesday's meeting at Brighton where Ryan Tate rode out his claim aboard Ice Slice.

Ryan Tate rode out his claim at Brighton on James Eustace's Ice Slice in the Streamline Taxis - Official Transport Partner Handicap to provide a nice symmetry in his fledgling career.

Eustace had also provided Tate's father, Jason, with his last winner as an apprentice jockey.

Sent off the 5-2 favourite, Ice Slice was a comfortable four-length winner from Mariee having made all.

"I'm really pleased - this was Ryan's last winner as a claimer, and we gave his father his last winner as a claimer - he rode a Royal Ascot winner for us (Refuse To Lose, 1998 Royal Hunt Cup) and we had many great days together," said Eustace.

"He rides as well as his father, he's got great hands and a good brain."

He added: "I'm quite surprised the horse goes so well around here, and on that quicker ground. We could come back for the Brighton Mile in August."

Richard Hannon is a rare visitor to the seaside venue these days but was on hand to witness Tomily (4-11 favourite) land the odds in the Veolia - Official Recycling Partner Novice Stakes.

Narrowly beaten by the smart Sutter County at Newmarket, he only faced two rivals after two of his four declared rivals failed to make it to the start and one veered badly right.

He beat his effectively sole rival Assassinate by six lengths.

"We trained the sire (Canford Cliffs) and we trained the dam (Cake), said Hannon.

"He's a nice horse and he was a little bit unlucky at Newmarket."

Clive Cox has started the season well and he was celebrating again when Fear Or Favour justified 5-2 favouritism in the L&S Printing - Official Print Partner Handicap.

A winner first time out two years ago, he was racing off a career-low mark under Adam Kirby.

"It's a nice feeling at this time of year when the horses are in form," said Cox.

"The owner, Alan Craddock, had Lethal Force with us so we're pleased to get him started for the year.

"The horse is starting to show the promise he showed two years ago, last year was more of a step sideways."

Hatsaway, who ran in the Queen's Vase on just the third outing of his career, finally won a race at the 15th time of asking in the Sussex Cleaning & Care - Official Cleaning Partner Handicap for Pat Phelan and John Egan.
