Shamshon shines under Jamie Spencer

A round-up of the main action from Chelmsford City, where Jamie Spencer struck on his return from Grade One glory in the US.
Jamie Spencer struck on his first ride since winning a Grade One in America on Saturday when Shamshon delivered the goods at Chelmsford City on Monday afternoon.
Spencer teamed up with former boss Aidan O'Brien to win the Belmont Derby on Deauville, and while the toteexacta Handicap was worth significantly less, it was still the feature race on the card at the Essex circuit.
Formerly trained by Richard Hannon and now with Jamie Osborne, the five-year-old had been beaten less than two lengths in the Mill Reef as a juvenile.
Despite carrying top weight at Chelmsford, he had nonetheless dropped to a mark of 90.
Once in the clear in the straight, he came home with purpose, beating Foxtrot Knight by a length and a quarter as the 7/2 favourite.
"He didn't handle the soft last time so was on something of a retrieval mission," said Spencer.
"We knew he handled the all-weather and was on a workable mark but he was hating the kickback.
"I wasn't sure if he'd pick up once I got in the clear but, in fairness to him, he did."
Robbert Eddery could be on his travels with Equimou (8/1), who ran out an impressive winner of the Greene King IPA Fillies' Novice Stakes under Andrea Atzeni.
She stepped up markedly on her Windsor debut by running out a four-length winner from Gerrard's Fur Coat.
"I was very pleased, but I thought she'd run well," Eddery told At The Races.
"I was hopeful, but expected Mark Johnston's (Boater) to be hard to beat.
"I told Andrea I thought she'd be in the first three, she just didn't like the soft ground on her debut.
"I've been thinking of a nursery at Goodwood for her but I'll talk to the owners as we might find a little Listed race abroad for her."
