Rose Dobbin fears the ground may dry up too much to take the wraps off exciting novice chaser Jonniesofa at Kelso on Sunday.

A Grade Two winner over hurdles, he suffered an injury in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham in 2016 which forced him to miss the whole of last season.

Jonniesofa is ready to return now but must have soft ground to be seen at his best.

"He's really well in himself and ready to run," said Dobbin.

"I'd love to run him at Kelso this weekend but it doesn't look like the ground is going to be soft enough.

"We have given him an entry at Uttoxeter as well but that was an afterthought, really.

"We're excited about him coming back, though. We could have got him back towards the end of last season but there was no point, really, as he wouldn't have had his ground in the spring.

"The extra time off will hopefully have a benefit and it's hugely exciting to have him back."
