Game Winner is among the new favourites for Saturday's Kentucky Derby following the defection of original market leader Omaha Beach.
Omaha Beach was ruled out by connections earlier in the week owing to an entrapped epiglottis.
Trainer Richard Mandella told the Daily Racing Form: "He was coughing, which made us suspicious, and we scoped him.
"It's not anything we can fix to have him run on Saturday, so we're going to have to scratch him.
"He'll miss two to three weeks of training. Alysheba had it a month before he won the Kentucky Derby. But we can't fix it and run this weekend."
Game Winner is one of three runners for trainer Bob Baffert, who landed the race last year with subsequent Triple Crown hero Justify. His others, Roadster and Improbable, are also prominent in the betting.
