Channon expects to have some fun with Winker Watson
The 2007 Norfolk Stakes winner Winker Watson, who also won the July Stakes at Newmarket, is back in training with Mick Channon.
He lost his way thereafter, although he did finish a close fourth in the Sussex Stakes behind Henrythenavigator a year later for Peter Chapple-Hyam.
Now a six year old, he's completed a season at Norman Court Stud and will return there after a possible tilt at the July Cup.
"It's a slightly unique case as he's not back in training due to infertility like we often see. He's been stopping all the mares that have seen him, but he's privately owned and the owners thought it's worth having some fun," said Channon on his website.
"Whilst breeders will have to wait to see his offspring in action, if all goes to plan race fans might be able to see the Daddy on a racecourse this summer.
"He's in the July Cup so that could be interesting. All I can say is that he's astounded me.
"It's quite unique and he'll return to Norman Court after we've had some fun with him.
"Obviously he needs to be happy and sound as a racehorse, but he worked up the Summers for the first time on Tuesday and he retains that touch of class he showed when Peter trained him as a two-year-old.
"He's only working with the two-year-olds at present, but he's loving life and will do anything you ask. Except follow, that drives him mad, so he's in charge of first lot and leads the string out to work and back again."
