Winning maiden other option

Fort Bastion could run in the 32Red Superlative Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. Richard Hannon's charge is one of the best maidens in training having chased home Aidan O'Brien's Maybe in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot last time. That fine effort in the Listed contest showed the two-year-old stayed seven furlongs well, and he had only found the well-regarded Mezmaar too good over six furlongs on his debut at Haydock. "He's come out of the race at Ascot in good form and we'll look at one or two options for him," said Barry Simpson, racing manager to owner Sir Robert Ogden. "He'll be entered at Newmarket for the Superlative Stakes. It's a big step up, but it's a possible. "It depends what's in the race, but if we feel he's not quite up to that kind of company at the moment we'll look maybe at a maiden somewhere. "We were very pleased with his performance in the Chesham. He was beaten by an exceptionally good filly. That was the quality of the race."
