O'Brien filly much too good

Wading (11-4) was an impressive winner of the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. The Montjeu filly quickened nicely inside the final two furlongs to put the race to bed with the runner-up Pimpernel (5-2 favourite) doing her best work too late. Winning jockey Ryan Moore was two lengths clear on the winner at the line with Gray Pearl (20-1) another neck back in third. Winning trainer Aidan O'Brien said: "She's a lovely filly. We've always liked her at home and when Joseph (O'Brien, jockey) got off her at Dundalk last time, he said she was very smart. "She will be trained for a Classic campaign. That race was over seven and she travelled through the race nicely." When asked to compare Wading with his other top juvenile filly Maybe, O'Brien added: "They are two very nice fillies and I'm privileged to have them both." Wading has been introduced at 10-1 for next year's 1000 Guineas and Oaks by Sky Bet. Matt Doyle of Sky Bet said: "The colts have been upstaged on future Champions Day by the Rockfel winner Wading who looks a serious Classic contender in both the 1000 Guineas and Oaks next year for Ballydoyle after such a taking performance."

Dubai date

Mahmood Al Zarooni said of Pimpernel: "To be honest she ran better than her class, she's a nice filly but her size doesn't help her. I would think we will take her to Dubai and I believe she is good enough to run well there next year." Gray Pearl finished third and Charlie Hills said: "I'm very pleased. Michael (Hills) said they really quickened from the three pole and the two fillies in front of her are clearly useful. "She's a nice big filly who might get better over the winter, but that's her finished for the season."
