Apprentice jockey Charlie Bennett appears to have escaped serious injury following a horror fall at Windsor on Monday.

The 7lb claimer was involved in a three-horse pile-up in division one of the Ladbrokes Maiden Stakes over a mile, taking a nasty tumble after his mount, Farmshop Boy, appeared to clip heels at about halfway.

Andrea Atzeni, riding Lady Guinevere, and Jason Nuttall, aboard Great Storm, quickly rose to their feet after they were involved in the incident.

Bennett was taken to Wexham Park Hospital in Slough for further checks, but was released on Monday evening.

The rider's agent, Philip Shea, said: "It looks as though it's not too bad, thankfully.

"He's battered and bruised and when I spoke to him this morning he was a bit groggy.

"He's been stood down for six days, but I thought it was going to be a lot worse than that.

"He has no broken bones and after they checked him over they sent him home last night, which surprised me.

"I've told him to go and get checked over again this morning and he's just waiting for someone to take him as he obviously can't drive.

"He doesn't remember much of the what happened. He said his horse was a bit keen and he was going in a straight line and that's all he can remember.

"It was a very nasty incident and I think he's been a very lucky boy.''
