Currency and payment services provider Racing FX is extending its horseracing sponsorship as the business grows.

The business is to back the new Colwick Cup, a race to be run at Nottingham Racecourse this month.

The £35,000 handicap, run over a mile and three quarters, takes place during the East Midlands track’s second Ladies’ Day of the summer on Friday, 14th August.

The race has been designed to attract horses that are likely to be eliminated from the valuable Ebor Handicap at York Racecourse later in the month.

London-based Racing FX is a leading currency conversion and payments company to the sports and equine industries.

Andy Rowland, the firm's chief executive, said: “As a business whose customers play a significant part in the horseracing industry, it is a logical step for us to raise our profile further within the sport.

"We are delighted that our first venture into race sponsorship is with a new and high profile contest at a racecourse owned by Jockey Club Racecourses, the largest commercial group in the sport.”

James Knox, General Manager of Nottingham Racecourse, added: “We are delighted to welcome Racing FX as the first-time sponsor of our new race, the Colwick Cup.  It is an event that will be attractive to racehorse owners and trainers as opportunities are limited at this time of year at this class and distance.

“The race has been framed to attract horses that are likely to be eliminated from the Ebor.  The 6lb penalty for winning the Colwick Cup may also allow connections the opportunity to get into the Ebor itself.

“Class 3 and 4 handicaps with good prize-money are an excellent fit for smaller racecourses at midweek fixtures and this is the latest example from Jockey Club Racecourses as we invest further in the sport.”

The Racing FX Colwick Cup adds to a season during which Nottingham Racecourse, as well as its three Listed contests, stages four £25,000 handicap races.

The first of these was held last month; there are two more on The Jockey Club Grassroots Finals Day – 30th September – and the fourth is on the final day of the track’s season on 4th November.
