Twin Sails is to sidestep the Futurity Stakes at the Curragh later this month in favour of an outing in the Denford Stud Stakes at Newbury.

Trainer Dean Ivory has earmarked the Listed seven-furlong contest, better know as the Washington Singer Stakes, at Newbury on August 15 as the next stopping point for the two-year-old following his solid effort in defeat in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood last week.

After winning his first two starts the son of Sir Percy acquitted himself well on his first outing at Pattern level when finishing a close-up fourth in the Group Two prize behind Galileo Gold.

Ivory said: "I was happy with his run at Goodwood as he ran true to form from a bad draw. I said before the race I would be delighted if he finished in the first four or five.

"It was the first time he had come round a bend and run on a racecourse like that. With him having all that to contend with, he did well.

"He always comes out of his races well, as he is a tough little horse.

"Although he is in the Futurity Stakes at the Curragh we will give that a miss and go for the Denford Stud Stakes before going on to the sales race (Weatherbys Hamilton £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes) at Doncaster in September."

While talk of Twin Sails becoming a contender for next year's Qipco 2000 Guineas is a long way off, the Radlett handler believes he will have no problems getting the mile trip should he find the necessary improvement to put himself in that category.

He said: "He finished strongly the other day and would have no problems getting a mile. Pat (Dobbs) had a problem pulling him up at the end of the race.

"He is very versatile and is so laid back. I just think he keeps getting better and better. "
