Llewellyn makes all under Garry Lavery

A review of the action from Catterick Bridge on Wednesday, where a couple of 7lb-claimers earned some welcome praise.

Declan Carroll felt Garry Lavery's 7lb claim proved crucial as Llewellyn scored his first victory in over a year in the Support Walking The Courses Handicap at Catterick.

Llewellyn had not tasted victory since scoring over seven furlongs at this track last April but rated some 15lb lower than that success this time and dropping back to six furlongs, the seven-year-old made no mistake.

Sent off a 10/1 shot, Lavery set out to make all on Llewellyn and he could be called the winner some way out, with the duo eventually notching a four-length verdict over Cadeaux Pearl.

Carroll told Racing UK: "I think around here you have to be handy and he's got plenty of pace. He's travelled well and he's done it well.

"I think the 7lb off made a big difference to him and the bit of juice in the ground.

"He's the type of horse that wouldn't take a lot of racing very quickly, so I'll have to be careful what I do and see where we go.

"We will get back, have a look and see what there is for him."

Top jumps trainers Oliver Sherwood and Alan King were in attendance and saw young Gearoid Brouder enjoy a day to remember with a double aboard Baby Ballerina and Cabelo.

The 7lb claimer only joined Brian Ellison's team in June and had had two winners from a handful of rides, but he massively enhanced his statistics at the North Yorkshire venue.

He produced Baby Ballerina (11/4) with a perfectly-timed run in the yorkshire-outdoors.co.uk Median Auction Maiden Stakes to score the first leg of his brace while Cabelo (16/1) battled hard to see off favourite Maraakib in the Racing UK Profits Returned To Racing Handicap.

Both winners were trained by Ellison and triumphed in the colours of Julie and Keith Hanson.

Graham Lee is certainly no stranger to multiple winners and he also hit the net twice on the day.

Musharrif justified his position as the 2/9 favourite as he notched a bloodless victory in the Racing Welfare Family Day Maiden Stakes.

Sir Michael Stoute's charge had run well at Salisbury last time and built on that third place as he scored by an untroubled three lengths for Lee.

Ansgrove Fatrascal was a particularly eyecatching contender as he is a rare skewbald runner, but he was outpaced from the off and eventually finished a distant last.

Lee then doubled up on the Chris Wall-trained Classic Villager in the 2015 Catterick Twelve Furlong Series Handicap.

The 5/2 favourite was given a canny ride by Lee, sitting off the early pace before running on for a three-quarter-length verdict over Multellie.

Di's Gift finished with real purpose to shed his maiden tag at the 14th attempt in the barriesices.co.uk Handicap.

The Richard Guest-trained gelding had hit the bar on his last couple of starts in the hands of Hayley Turner but with Patrick Mathers aboard this time, he stayed on well on the far rail in what turned out to be an exciting three-way finish.

Favourite Rock On Bollinski tried to launch a late run down the middle of the track but Di's Gift had a neck to spare over Weybridge Light with the market leader a further half-length back in third.

Busy Bimbo (8/1) landed the closing Book Now For Saturday 19th September Handicap for Alan Berry and Joe Doyle.
