Andrew Balding will leave it as late as possible before deciding which race Elm Park will contest on Qipco Champions Day at Ascot next month.

The three-year-old holds entries in both the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and the Qipco Champion Stakes on October 17.

The son of Phoenix Reach recorded his first win of the season when landing the Listed Fortune Stakes at Sandown over a mile on Wednesday on what was his first start since finishing down the field in the Investec Derby.

Balding said: "That was a nice confidence booster and that will have blown away the cobwebs for Champions Day.

"I don't know which race he will go for yet and I think we will leave it until the last possible moment before making a decision.

"There are a lot of factors to take into consideration, like the opposition and the ground. He came out of the race at Sandown fine as he is a relatively fresh horse.

"I think he should play a part in whichever race he turns up in on Champions Day."
