Noseda Strikes in Richmond

.

Jeremy Noseda's juveniles continue in sparkling form and Strike The Deal maintained the run with a decisive success in the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood. Fleeting Spirit clinched the Molecomb Stakes in the same colours under Johnny Murtagh earlier in the week but this time it was Eddie Ahern doing the steering. Newmarket winner Fat Boy made much of the running but Strike The Deal came from an unpromising position to sweep into the lead. The result was never in doubt as Ahern's 7/1 chance put daylight between himself and his rivals, winning by a length and a quarter. "He raced very keenly in the Norfolk Stakes but he's done it well today," reflected the winning trainer. "We'll have a look at the Prix Morny now and take it from there." Aidan O'Brien's One Great Cat was sent off the 3-1 favourite but had to settle for a share of third place as he dead-heated with Exhibition (7-1) a further one and a half lengths back. Wake Up Maggie returned to the winners' circle earlier in the day when Chris Wall's filly came with a strong late run to take the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes. George Baker played his cards late on the 11/1 chance, wearing down the favourite Costume close home to win by half a length. In-foal mare Redstone Dancer ran on strongly to take third ahead of the gambled-on Selinka.
