John Gosden and Frankie Dettori win HWPA Awards

John Gosden and Frankie Dettori were among the winners at the 49th annual Horserace Writers & Photographers Derby Awards Lunch in London on Monday.
Gosden picked up both the Trainer of the Year and the International Trainer of the Year awards, while Frankie Dettori was crowned Jockey of the Year.
There was further joy for connections of Derby, Coral-Eclipse, Irish Champion Stakes and Arc hero Golden Horn, with owner-breeder Anthony Oppenheimer taking the Owner of the Year award.
Alastair Down won the Clive Graham Trophy for Racing Writer of the Year for a record fourth time.
The Peter O'Sullevan Trophy for Broadcaster of the Year went to John Hunt, who works for At The Races, Radio 5 Live and as a racecourse commentator, beating Nick Luck, Matt Chapman and Richard Hoiles to the prize.
The second award for a journalist, the John Oaksey Trophy for the Racing Reporter of the Year, went to Graham Dench.
Dan Abraham became the Photographer of the Year for the third time, while Patrick McCann captured the Picture of the Year accolade for his image of Quantitativeeasing moments before the horse broke the photographer's leg at the Cheltenham Festival.
Norman Gundill gained the George Ennor Trophy for Outstanding Achievement, in recognition of his long nurturing of Pontefract Racecourse, while the President's Award went to American Triple Crown winner, American Pharoah.
The Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club Arabian award, to recognise outstanding achievement in Arabian racing, was won by trainer Gill Duffield.
