Jarvis raider wins Turkey race for third successive year

Pressing won the International Topkapi Trophy at Veliefendi in Turkey for a third successive year on Sunday. Andrew Balding's Dream Eater emerged from the pack to chase him home, but just like 12 months ago Pressing held sway for trainer Michael Jarvis. Neil Callan had the veteran close to the sedate early pace and got first run on his fellow British raider when shooting clear a furlong out. However, he just held on after drifting close home with Luca Cumani's Mabait running a solid race to finish third. Godolphin's Invisible Man and Frozen Power were never in contention. "That was great, he's a fantastic horse, he really is," said Jarvis. "He's not happy unless he is away for three or four days! "Maybe he was idling in front a touch, but he has that one big kick and it is always quite worrying whether Neil goes too early or leaves it too late, he's just got to get it right but it is a wonderful burst which helps him win his races. "Neil had him in the perfect position, Jimmy (Fortune) had a lot of ground to make up and ultimately it made the difference. "There's nothing between the two horses, they were separated by a nose lost year and there's no more than half a length between them again. There was nothing between them at Salisbury last time out either, they are on a par I think." James Given's Indian Days yet again gave the British raiders a clean sweep in the major events when swooping late in the International Bosphorus Cup. Alan Munro, who partnered Halicarnassus to victory in the race 12 months ago, was content to sit out the back in the early stages as Kieren Fallon put the pace to the race at halfway on Estejo. With two furlongs to run all the British raiders were lining up their challenges with Buzzword, Halicarnassus and the Jarvis-trained Sri Putra holding chances. But it was Indian Days who came widest of all under Munro and found a fine turn of foot to follow up his victory at Glorious Goodwood in great style. Sri Putra was second with Buzzword third.
