Racing Demon is on course to run over fences at Ascot

Racing Demon is set to have his first run over fences since December 2009 when he lines up in the Betfair Ascot Chase on Saturday. Trainer Henrietta Knight is keen to return the 11-year-old to the bigger obstacles although he hasn't raced over them since he was pulled up in last season's King George VI Chase at Kempton. Knight admits it will be no easy reintroduction, but reports that Racing Demon is on course for the Grade One contest over two miles, five and a half furlongs. He was third behind Kauto Star and Monet's Garden in the corresponding race three years ago. "At the moment he's on course for Ascot, but it's quite a hot race," said the Lockinge handler. "We want to put him back over fences, though, and he's run at Ascot before. "He's not run over fences for a long time, so we will have to see."
