Aussie sprinter tops rankings

Aussie sprinter Black Caviar has been rated the top Flat horse currently racing anywhere in the world. The five-year-old filly heads the latest edition of the World Thoroughbred Rankings, which cover all the performances between last October and 27 March this year, after a string of brilliant wins. Her most recent victory came on 25 March but she earned her top rating of 130 when powering to a three-length win in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap on 12 March. The handicappers rated that effort 1lb superior to the one put up by the subsequently-retired Blame, when he beat Zenyatta in the Breeders' Cup Classic last year. Greg Carpenter represents Australia on the rankings committee and said Black Caviar's achievement represented a "landmark for Australian racing". He added: "Winners at the Dubai World Cup meeting, US Breeders' Cup meeting, Hong Kong International meeting and the Arc have all been rated inferior to Black Caviar."
