Super League: Wakefield Trinity beat Leigh Leopards to earn play-offs rematch as Warrington Wolves set up Hull KR clash

Wakefield Trinity earned a home play-offs rematch with Leigh Leopards after a 19-8 victory over them in the final round of the Super League season.
The two sides will clash again next week in the fourth vs fifth Eliminator contest but this time the contest will take place in Yorkshire on Friday September 18, live on Sky Sports.
The fourth-place finish is Wakefield's highest ever in the Super League season and is the latest sign of their resurgence under Daryl Powell after returning to the Super League in 2025.

Meanwhile, a 26-14 win for a young Warrington Wolves side over Toulouse Olympique saw them wrap up third spot and they will face Hull KR, who finished in sixth after a 36-12 loss to St Helens. That match will take place on Saturday September 19, also live on Sky Sports.
The winners of those two contests will then advance to the semi-finals for the chance to face either League Leaders' Shield winners Wigan Warriors or second-place Leeds Rhinos for a spot in the Grand Final at Old Trafford on October 3.
Wakefield make statement as Leigh cannot finish fight back
In the warm-up for the Eliminator match-up between Wakefield and Leigh Leopards, Tom Johnstone went over early for the visitors as they made the most of their own kick, Jake Trueman sending his winger sliding in for a 4-0 lead.
Two Max Jowitt penalties then came alongside a second try for the Wakefield winger that was the most spectacular of finishes, moving them 12-0 up.
Trueman then sent a message just before the break as he sent over a drop goal for a 13-0 advantage, the home Leigh faithful sombre knowing this was the exact contest they will play next week away from home.
Leigh Leopards came out chancing their arm in the second half and Owen Trout got them on the scoreboard.
It then looked like they were heading towards a comeback after Mason Lino was sent to the sin bin for a professional foul and they capitalised through Innes Senior with a brilliant finish on the edge to bring the score to 13-8.
However, Wakefield stood strong and with just three minutes left on the clock, Cam Scott powered over in the corner and Jowitt converted to wrap up a 19-8 win.
Leigh beat Wakefield in the play-offs in 2025 but if they are to do it again, it would mark their first win over Trinity this season.

"I thought the boys did us proud today. We had a sin-binning but then we were tough and courageous after that.
"We will dust ourselves down, learn from this, and get ready.
"I think both teams will have been talking about it being around play-off time and being ready for it.
"We probably left a couple of points on the field thanks to some desperate defence from Leigh.
"It is all about next week now. Leigh beat us last year in the play-offs, we were stinging from that, and we carried that into this year."
And does he believe his side have been written off too early?"I just think we have had some great lessons," he added.
"We have carried them through with us and we are a better team for having them at the end of the season.
"It is awesome- into the six and a great opportunity for us.
"Are we good enough? It is for us to show we are. It is for us to show we are capable of great things."
Warrington take a risk and it pays off
Warrington head coach Sam Burgess took a risk to rest the majority of his side, having made 11 changes, and opted for his young guns to see his side home in third position, and they did just that with a gusty victory.
Toulouse have impressed across 2026 under Sylvain Houles on their return to Super League and early on they had Warrington locked into a contest.
They went over first through Paul Ulberg, but an error on their own line allowed Aaron Lindop to capitalise.
The visitors hit back again through Mathieu Pons but on the stroke of half-time, Lachlan Webster levelled at 8-8. None of the four tries scored were converted.
Similarly to the first half, Toulouse were the first to go over again in the second period thanks to Romeo Tropis, but then Warrington took things up a notch.
After Max Wood barged over from short range, Lindop capitalised on another error for his second.
Even with a man down after Charlie McKler was sent to the sin bin for a high shot, the Wolves showed their grit and Josh Smith did incredibly to slide in on the end of a Leon Hayes kick.
Hayes converted three of the five efforts and Warrington now have Hull KR in their sights as they welcome them to the Halliwell Jones Stadium in a clash for a spot in the semi-finals.
Saints bid farewell to two modern legends as KR finish sixth
It was an emotional night in St Helens as they said goodbye to two modern-day legends, Mark Percival and Jonny Lomax, and they marked it with a 36-12 victory over Hull KR, who finish the season in sixth place.
They handed the former the captaincy for the first time in his career, a guard of honour forming as the pair made their way out onto the field.
However, their farewells also marked their earliest goodbye to a season in their history; after finishing seventh and taking on an inexperienced Hull KR side, they were expected to finish with a sizeable victory.
The Robins had welcomed back Mikey Lewis from his two-match ban but head coach Willie Peters had opted to rest his players ahead of the defence of their title.
The first half was written in the stars for the home side as Percival opened the scoring, then provided the assist for Lomax to mark Saints' second.
Just when you thought the storyline was done, Lomax barged over for his second on the stroke of half-time for an 18-0 lead.
Hull KR did hit back through Bill Leyland and a sensational solo effort from 18-year-old Flynn Holden on debut, but efforts from Deon Cross, Jacob Host, and Harry Robertson were enough to seal the comprehensive win as an era came to a fitting end at Saints.
