The Magic Weekend fixture between Wigan and Leeds will be 'another classic', Wigan's Anthony Gelling told Sky Sports.

This weekend all twelve Super League sides arrive in Newcastle for Magic Weekend, where there will be six games all played at St James' Park in Newcastle over the course of two days.

Wigan play Leeds in what is being predicted as ‘another classic’ by Warriors’ Auckland-born player Anthony Gelling.

The centre, who scored in Wigan’s 18-14 victory over Leeds in the 2014 edition of Magic Weekend, is expecting a similarly difficult test from the Rhinos this year.

“The way they've been going, they've been playing really well and if their form is anything to go by we are going to have to step up because we've not been too good at the minute,” said Gelling.

“If last year is anything to go by I think this one will be another classic.

“We could close that gap on Leeds, because they're starting to get away at the top. To take two points off them and get two for ourselves will definitely close that gap, and we'll jump above St Helens.”

Hostility

The Magic Weekend fixture between the two sides last year was a fiery affair, with plenty of hostility spilling into the match. Despite this, it’s a game fondly remembered by the Cook Islands international.

“We were the last game of the day and there were heaps of fans that hung around to watch us and it was a good game,” said Gelling.

“There are a lot of people who don't like Wigan, they like to see us lose. It adds to the atmosphere and it is good fun.

“The way we beat them last year, it was kind of similar, they were in good form.

“To beat them you've just got to get in their faces, be confrontational for 80 minutes and they get a bit angry, and you get under their skin a bit and they kind of lose their heads.”

Live Super League Magic Weekend

The weekend as a whole will provide entertainment for all according Gelling, who has urged the fans to take part.

“I was at the Summer Bash down at Blackpool and if it's anything like that weekend it will be good.

“We're lucky enough to be playing on the first day so we can go out afterwards and go for a beer in Newcastle.

“It's just good fun, it's a good weekend. You've got people from all over the country travelling down.

“If it's going to be sunny you're out there all day having a few beers and people dressing up - it's a lot of fun.”
