Australia winger Josh Mansour has been ruled out for the rest of the Ladbrokes Four Nations Series after suffering a freak knee injury in training on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old Penrith Panther was in line to face New Zealand in Coventry on Saturday, having produced an impressive two-try performance in the Kangaroos' opening 54-12 win over Scotland on Friday.
However, Mansour was hurt in a collision with team-mate Josh Dugan during the team's final training session at the St George's Park complex in Burton before they head for Birmingham.
He was carried from the field and taken to hospital, where scans revealed he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.
"It's obviously shattering news for Josh," Australia coach Mal Meninga said.
"He has been a popular member of the squad and was excellent for us against Scotland last Friday."
A spokesman for the Kangaroos said the tourists' medical staff will work closely with Penrith on the best course of action for Mansour, who could miss the start of the 2017 NRL season.
