Greg Eden scored a hat-trick as Castleford registered a 42-10 thrashing of last season's Challenge Cup champions Hull FC.

Greg Minikin added two tries to his side's cause, while new signing Zak Hardaker also scored in his first appearance for the Tigers.

Rangi Chase set up the first try of the match, putting Mike McMeeken through for the score, and Hardaker was over shortly thereafter as the Tigers took a 10-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Both of Minikin's tries came in the second quarter, and sandwiched Eden's first as the two teams went into the break with Castleford 24-0 ahead.

Eden raced the length of the field for his second as the Tigers notched the first score after the break, and completed his hat-trick on the hour mark for a 32-0 lead.

Five minutes later the home side were 42-0 ahead when Tuoyo Egodo and Luke Million crossed, with Hull FC looking unlikely to contribute to the affair.
