Tigers keep hold of trio as they plan for life back in the top flight

Castleford have handed new deals to Kirk Dixon, Anthony Thackeray and Mark Leafa ahead of their return to Super League. The trio have all agreed to stay at The Jungle after playing key roles in helping the Tigers secure promotion from National League One at the first attempt. Utility back Dixon finished as the leading scorer with 23 tries, while Thackeray made an instant impact after joining from Hull FC in mid-July. Both have signed two-year contracts. Samoan international Leafa, who is staying on for another 12 months, has top-flight experience from his time with Leigh Centurions in 2005.

Outstanding

"All three players have been outstanding for us this year and I believe that they have the capabilities to take the step up to the next level in Super League," said coach Terry Matterson. "We now have the nucleus of a good squad with 14 players confirmed for next year and we are working towards signing another eight or nine players over the coming weeks." Castleford are now setting their sights on new overseas recruits as they look to make an impression on their return to the top table. Football manager Michael Robinson has flown to Australia armed with a shopping list which is thought to include Canterbury Bulldogs scrum-half Brent Sherwin.
