Wakefield will be without captain Danny Kirmond and scrum-half Tim Smith for Friday’s Super League game against Wigan at the DW Stadium.

Kirmond has been ruled out after suffering a series of knocks, while former Warriors star Smith is to see a specialist about a knee injury.

Jarrod Sammut, who has recently been playing on a dual-registration for London Broncos, is a likely replacement for Smith, who has started each of the Wildcats' last 18 matches after re-joining them from Salford midway through last season.

Coach James Webster said: "Tim has a knee injury and will need to go see a specialist and Danny has been carrying various injuries for a long period of time and he is just not fit enough to play.

"It gives us a good opportunity to give a run out to some of the younger players again. We go to Wigan with a mindset that we are still looking at getting a result."

Teenage winger Tom Johnstone is in contention to make his debut for Wakefield just a week after signing a three-year contract extension and is joined in Webster's 19-man squad by forward Jordan Hand, who is also in line to make his first appearance for the club after joining them on loan from St Helens.
