Tommy Makinson injury blow for St Helens

St Helens winger Tommy Makinson is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in the closing stages of Friday’s Super League game against Salford.
The 23-year-old scored two first-half tries for Saints against the Red Devils, as well as booting six goals in the 32-12 success, but he was hurt in a seemingly innocuous tackle in the final minutes of the Langtree Park contest.
Makinson, who has scored 13 Super League tries this season, has now undergone surgery on his ankle and will miss a number of games at a crucial stage of the campaign.
"Thanks every1 for the messages! Had surgery yesterday to my damaged ankle! All looking ok! Will keep updated," Makinson tweeted on Sunday morning.
St Helens are at home to Wigan next Friday, followed by a trip to Castleford the following weekend.
They then host Widnes in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals on June 28 and start their July schedule with a top-of-the-table showdown with Leeds at Headingley.
