St Helens' Luke Thompson joins Tommy Makinson in signing new contract

Luke Thompson has joined Tommy Makinson in committing his future to St Helens.

The strong-running forward's new contract runs until the end of the 2020 Super League season and comes as he closes on 100 games for the club.

Thompson, 22, made his senior debut in 2013 and has gone on to play 91 times for his hometown club, having represented their academy after playing as an amateur for Bold Miners and Pilkington Recs.

Earlier on Wednesday, Makinson signed a contract to keep him with St Helens until 2021.

Thompson said: "I'm really pleased to have signed a new contract at the club.

"I have been here all my career and I'm looking forward to the future under Justin Holbrook and the talent we have coming through the system.

"This has probably been my best season to date in terms of form but I know I still have a lot to work on. I want to get better year on year.
