Super League: Antonio Kaufusi announces his exit from Huddersfield Giants
Tuesday 7 October 2014 10:25, UK
Former Australia international Antonio Kaufusi is the latest overseas forward to confirm his departure from Huddersfield Giants.
The 29-year-old prop has made 18 appearances this year, but decided to cut short his stay with the Giants, joining team-mates Jason Chan and David Faiumu in returning home to Australia.
Kaufusi was loaned out to Bradford Bulls after losing his place in the Huddersfield team and might have slipped further down the pecking order after the club's recruitment of Castleford front rower Craig Huby.
"I have enjoyed my time in the UK but we have decided as a family to return home,” said the former London Broncos player.
"I know I had next year at the Giants but an opportunity has appeared back home for us which we want to pursue at this stage. I would like to thank all my coaches and team-mates for a most enjoyable year and the supporters too who have been great to me and my family."
Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis said: "Antonio has been a super professional at the club and someone who the younger lads do look up to.
"His decision to move back home is a disappointment in many ways but he is looking to the future and he has a great long-term opportunity for employment to pursue which may not be there if he remained in the UK for another season."
