Wigan forward Connor Farrell has joined Kingstone Press Championship club Swinton on an initial one-month loan a day after former world heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield announced three new deals at the Warriors.

Farrell, 23, who spent last season on loan at Widnes, has yet to play for the Warriors this year after struggling with injury.

Wigan rugby director Kris Radlinski said: "Connor is a great professional who has had a tough time with injuries so far throughout his career. It is best for Connor to be playing regularly at the moment."

Farrell's older brother Liam was one of three Wigan players to sign new contracts on Friday in a move that was announced by Holyfield.

Holyfield, a supporter of basketball team Golden State Warriors, got his Warriors mixed up in a recent tweet but the Super League champions were quick to seize an opportunity to cash in on some unexpected publicity.

Wigan communications executive Tim Fisher said: "We do like to do things a little differently at Wigan.

"We had a good chat about how we could go about announcing this great news to our fans and the wider world and that's when Evander was mentioned by our general rugby manager Kris Radlinski.

"Obviously we realise that Evander sent his tweet on Sunday in error but he saw the funny side of it and has engaged with us and Wigan fans several times this week.

"He seems a great bloke so we put the idea to him and he was more than happy to tweet out the news. We're really grateful for his help and who knows? Maybe he can join us for a game at some point in the future."
