Fijian international Daryl Millard becomes third player to leave unsettled Wakefield this week

Another exit for troubled Wildcats

Fijian international Daryl Millard has become the third player to leave unsettled Wakefield this week, signing for Super League rivals Catalans Dragons. The 25-year-old former St George and Canterbury Bulldogs centre is the latest star to be sold by the administrators at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium, as they wait for local businessman Andrew Glover to complete his takeover. Since Monday the Wildcats have seen the departure of influential half-back Sam Obst to Hull and second rower Dale Ferguson to Huddersfield. All three players took part in Wakefield's 40-20 opening-day drubbing by Castleford at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday. Millard, known as "Magic" to his peers, racked up 11 tries in 22 appearances in his inaugural Super League season, despite being sidelined for six weeks due to a knee injury.

Wanted

This type of form will be welcomed by Catalan chairman Bernard Guasch, who is looking for Millard to replace Australian centre/second rower Dane Carlaw, who departed in the close season. "It took more than three weeks of negotiations to get him to come to Perpignan," said Guasch. "He is a young, fast and elegant player and the kind of player we needed." Millard is set to fly out to Perpignan this week but will not be included against his former club in Saturday's match at Gilbert Brutus. "I always wanted to sign a centre following the departure of Dane Carlaw," said coach Trent Robinson. "I sought an experienced player and especially one able to adapt to our system of play."
