Justin Carney leaves Salford for Hull KR

Hull KR have signed Justin Carney after the winger reached a deal releasing him from his Salford contract.

Australian Carney is currently serving an eight-match ban for racially abusing an opponent and was the subject of an internal Salford investigation.

He joins Rovers on a deal until the end of the 2018 season, subject to a visa clearance, linking up with former Salford director of rugby Tim Sheens at Craven Park.

A Salford statement read: "Salford Red Devils can confirm that winger Justin Carney is to join Hull Kingston Rovers with immediate effect, after the club reached an agreement with the player's representatives.

"The player leaves by mutual consent following the conclusion of an internal investigation.

"Carney was suspended for eight games by the Rugby Football League after admitting using racial language, leading to his sending off in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup against Toronto Wolfpack last month.

"The club will be making no further comment."

Salford, meanwhile, have signed utility forward James Hasson from Parramatta Eels, a former NRL Grand Finalist with Manly Sea Eagles.

Ireland international Hasson can play in the front and second row, and head coach Ian Watson said: "His attitude and desire to come on board with us has been superb, and I'm sure he will slot straight into the playing group over the coming weeks."
