Super League: Arrival of Jason Chan on loan at Hull KR excites Neville Costigan

Hull KR lock Neville Costigan is relishing the opportunity to play alongside international team-mate Jason Chan following his arrival on loan from Huddersfield Giants.

Chan will play out the remainder of the Super League season with the Robins and Costigan admits he was impressed with his opening display in Sunday’s defeat to Salford at the KC Lightstream Stadium.

He’s really tough, he’s one of those players that won’t give up and he’ll give 110 per cent every game. He’s got a lot of quality about him so I’m excited to play with him again.

Papua New Guinea international Costigan lined up alongside fellow forward Chan in last year’s Rugby League World Cup and admires the 30-year-old’s relentless attitude.

“He’s a really good player is Jason,” Costigan told Hull KR's official website. “He hasn’t played for weeks but he came out on Sunday and put in a good 50 minutes or so.

Exciting

“He’s really tough, he’s one of those players that won’t give up and he’ll give 110 per cent every game. He’s got a lot of quality about him so I’m excited to play with him again.”

After making his debut from the bench at the weekend Chan is expected to make the starting line-up for Saturday’s trip to the already-relegated London Broncos, though, Costigan is wary of complacency.

Rovers are currently ninth in the Super League ladder, three points behind Widnes Vikings in the final playoff position, meaning they must win at The Hive to help maintain hopes of making the knockout stages.

“These are the games you’ve got to watch out for,” he added. “When you play teams that haven’t won a game, there’s not much hype before the game and you have to find to build your own energy.

“They’ll be pumped, they’ll want to win their first game of the year and there’s not many matches yet. We don’t want to be the first to lose to them and we have to switch on.”
